A true piece of bourbon history, the Warehouse C Tornado Survivor is a one-time limited release from Buffalo Trace that resulted from a literal act of God. On April 2, 2006, a severe tornado ripped through Frankfort, Kentucky, tearing the roof and north wall off the historic Warehouse C (built by E.H. Taylor himself in 1881).
Rather than moving the barrels, Buffalo Trace left them in place while the warehouse was rebuilt. For an entire summer, these barrels were exposed to the direct Kentucky sun, wind, and rain. This "unintended experiment" led to extreme temperature fluctuations and a doubled evaporation rate (Angel's Share), resulting in a flavor profile that is impossible to replicate.
